    Get GeoLeadScraper up and running in minutes

    System Requirements

    • Chrome browser version 100 or higher (or Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Brave, Opera)
    • Active internet connection
    • No special permissions or admin rights required

    Installation Steps

    Don't use GitHub's "Code → Download ZIP". That archive is the source code, not the extension — loading it fails with "Manifest file is missing or unreadable". Download the release zip below instead, or build from source with pnpm install && pnpm build:extension and load apps/extension/dist.

    Download the latest release

    Open the latest GitHub release and download geoleadscraper-extension-vX.Y.Z.zip (not "Source code"). Unzip it to a folder you'll keep — Chrome loads the extension from there.

    Open chrome://extensions

    Type chrome://extensions in your address bar and press Enter. Toggle on 'Developer mode' in the top-right corner.

    Load unpacked

    Click the 'Load unpacked' button and select the unzipped folder — the one that directly contains manifest.json. GeoLeadScraper will appear in your extensions list.

    Pin the Extension

    Click the extensions icon (puzzle piece) in your Chrome toolbar. Find GeoLeadScraper and click the pin icon to keep it visible.

    Required Permissions

    GeoLeadScraper requests the following permissions to function properly:

    • Active Tab: To read business data from Google Maps pages you're currently viewing
    • Storage: To save your preferences and export history locally
    • Tabs, Scripting & Alarms: Used only by the optional MCP auto-collection bridge to open a map tab in the background and check your local backend for jobs

    Troubleshooting

    "Manifest file is missing or unreadable"

    • • You selected the wrong folder. Pick the folder that directly contains manifest.json
    • • The source code from "Code → Download ZIP" can't be loaded as is. Download geoleadscraper-extension-vX.Y.Z.zip from the latest release
    • • Unzip the file first. Chrome can't load a .zip directly

    Extension Button Not Showing

    • • The GeoLeadScraper panel appears on the map itself: on a search results page (Start extracting) or on a single place (Extract reviews)
    • • Check that the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/
    • • Try refreshing the Google Maps page
    • • Restart your Chrome browser

    No Results When Extracting

    • • Ensure you're on a Google Maps search results page
    • • For reviews, make sure you're signed in to Google. Signed-out users get a limited view of Maps without reviews
    • • Check that search results are visible on the left panel
    • • Try a different search term or location

    General Issues

    Restart Chrome:

    Close all Chrome windows completely and reopen. This often resolves extension conflicts.

    Clear Cache:

    Go to chrome://settings/clearBrowserData and clear cached images and files from the last hour.

    Reinstall Extension:

    Remove the extension from chrome://extensions and load the unpacked folder again (re-download the latest release if needed).

    Privacy & Responsible Use

    Data Privacy: GeoLeadScraper processes data locally in your browser. We don't collect, store, or transmit your extracted data to our servers.

    Responsible Use: Only extract publicly available business information. Follow Google's Terms of Service and applicable data protection laws in your jurisdiction.

    Rate Limits: Use the tool at a reasonable pace. Excessive requests may trigger temporary restrictions from Google.
